My Story

I am a teacher, a dog lover, and a Denver Bronco Fanatic. I love to organize and create original things for my classroom. I decided it's about time I share my ideas with others.
I graduated from the University of Tulsa in 2009 with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. The minute I walked off that graduation stage, I packed my car with all my belongings and moved back to Denver, Colorado. Before I had time to enjoy any free time I hit the pavement looking for teaching jobs and enrolling in graduate school. Of course, I graduated the year all of the budget cuts began and finding a teaching job was near impossible. So instead I decided to substitute teach. I taught in both Jeffco Public Schools and Denver Public Schools in the Far Northeast Quadrant. Think Montebllo and Green Valley Ranch. Let's just say I never had a boring day subbing and I know have a new founded appreciation for substitute teachers. On days that I didn't substitute teach, I attended classes at The University of Denver getting my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I loved the program and often think about going back for some more degrees. Just a little crazy!
After a year of subbing I decided that the 5am phone calls and inconsistent work schedules were not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. After countless interviews at random charter schools (the only schools that seem to have escaped the budget cuts), I found a position at a school in Douglas County working as a SSN/SIED paraprofessional. This was totally out of my comfort zone and taught me a lot about myself. One year of that was plenty. The day school go out, I hit the ground running looking for another job.
I found my dream job working at the Bridge Project. It is a non-profit after school program for kids living in Denver Housing. I teach the literacy classes to K-5th grade, a science class, an art class, and few other movie/book club classes. With my love for reading, no matter the subject of the class I always tie it back to literacy. That is my career journey in a nut shell. I look forward to the next step....
